Recently, there has been a problem on my computer that has brought me much frustration. Every time my computer shuts down, I receive a 0x7e blue screen message, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.

I can start and run my computer fine, though has been extremely slow, but I do not think it has anything to do with the BSOD.

My computer is the HP p6240f, and I am having trouble finding my BIOS model, if that matters.

Have you tried running the on-board diagnostics from PC Doctor? You may either have some faulty hardware, or you may need to update the system's device drivers. This can usually be done through Windows Updates, by selecting the Optional Updates.

Can you send me a link the the test you are telling me to use? They have a number of products, and I do not know which one you are talking about.

There should be one installed in your BIOS. When you boot the computer up, if you press the function key to interrupt the startup (possibly F9, or F10) you should be able to select "Diagnostics" or something like that. Otherwise, if you enter the Bios, there should be a tab that allows you to run diagnostics. If you cannot find it, you can always download the following, and burn the ISO file to a cd and simply boot from that.
