1394 Firewire cable length?

I see there is a 4.5M limitation, but can that be overcome?

Will the signal carry longer to something like 25'? I see there are a few cables available at that length. But newegg is out of stock on the 6-pin to 6-pin that I need.

Well, 4.5 meters is 15 feet, but I know that some uses of IEEE-1394 use much greater lengths. I worked on the fuel system for the X-47 UCAV, and Firewire was used for all the internal communications between the multiple redundant computers, and they're all over the airframe.

I found one place selling 100 cables. But cables longer than 15' look to be rather uncommon.

Most people don't feel the need to put their devices on the other end of the house. :D
