I just upgraded from 98se to 2000Pro.(I know, I should've done a clean install but,I didn't) A couple of small problems have popped up. First,WinMedia player starts at startup. I have StartUp CPL installed but WMP is not on the list. It is not in the Startup folder and I've seached all thru WMP looking for something to uncheck to make it quit. I know it's an easy one but, Ive been on 98 too long. Next deal, I tried to install MBProbe and it tells me to put a file in WinNT/Sys32. There are no WinNT files anywhere. What's up with that? With the exception of the Documents and Settings folder, C drive looks just like 98 did. I could have sworn there was susposed to be some $WinNT$ (or something like that) folders involved here somewhere. Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi,
    1. Since you have done an upgrade to Windows 2000, it has installed in the same folder as Windows 98SE, also while it DOES add a few files to the root folder of the hard drive, it hides them from you (System-file protection: it hides files with the system attribute, even if you select "View hidden files and folders" from "Folder Options", some of these files are, by the way: NTLDR, BOOTSECT.DAT....etc. (I do not know them all exactly)
As for Windows Media Player popping up at startup, that can easily be figured, just download HiJack This! from MajorGeeks, then run it and post the log here, it will show what is causing Windows Media Player to pop up....

Thanks n7, I've got HiJackThis in here somewhere. This upgrade has got things scattered all over. I went to do a Find a while ago and it wanted to install Office 2000. I had to uninstall Office to use the Find. Now I get to install it again and see what happens. It may be easier to format and try again. We'll see what happens.
Where do you think I should put this file MBProbe wants in WinNT/Sys32? In the Windows/System32 folder? Thanks.

Put it in a separate folder, create a (eg: C:\HJT) folder on put the file there, it's necessary to put the program in a separate folder as whenever you use it to fix anything it creates a backup of it in a BACKUPS subfolder in the folder where you put it (eg: C:\HJT\Backups)

    There's a few items that weren't there with 98SE. I don't have a clue on 2000. Thanks.

Hmmm, I've checked this software on google, but nothing appears to be spyware or ad-ware, try downloading the latest version of Windows Media Player (currently version 10), try running Ad-Aware and SpyBot.....

I've run all the usual SpyBot,AdAware,RegClean,AVG,....and everything is clean. I guess I'll just have to live with Media Player popping up at startup. I installed msconfig and it's not listed in there either. Thanks for your time.
