Started getting error on some email addresses 550 authentication required. Undeliverable Email: "550 must be authenticated" My ISP provider does not use this. Up until a week ago there were no problems. I have a laptop also running Vista Home Premium and it does not do this for the exact saem addresses.

From my end the error seems random, some email addresses work just fine. This problem is for some old email addresses and some new ones.

When it frst started I contacted my secrutiyt, Webroot, and they had me change the firewall mode and everything seemed fine. The next day, same problem again. WEbroot says it is not them. Have rebooted computer several times. No fix

The error is generated due to the SMTP server requiring authentication. Most likely they have multiple mail servers and one requires authentication which subsequently produces that error.

Fix - in Outlook, open Account Setting - double click on the account in question - More Settings - Advanced - in there should be a box that says something like "my outgoing mail server requires authentication". Tick that box and input the username and password you have to receive your emails and you should stop receiving those errors.

You will need to do this on all computers this account is configured on.
