I have a question for someone.

I recently purchased a 250 Gig Seagate hard drive and I have installed WinXP w/SP2 on it. I install my virus engine and firewall and begin to update the OS from Microsoft. After I reboot my system (and sometimes even before) I begin receiving error messages, one is "Internet Explorer is experiencing problems and needs to close", another is a Dr. Watson error saying the same thing. Well when I choose to "send error report" the system clears all the desktop icons as if it's refreshing itself and then the error messages return. After doing this about 2 or 3 times I decide to check the system in Control Panel with Computer Managment and I notice that my partition has been split. Instead of having one partition that's around 239G, I now have 2, one that's 209G and another that's 23G. Now the 23G doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it but there is system data written to it.

Now my question is why is this happening and how can I keep this from happening again?
