I wrote files to my 3.5 floppy disk in my xp's floppy dd and went to my friend's house and tried to read the files on her xp using her fdd. It said disk not formated!!?

    Cause? Remedy?

Try it again in your own drive. It may be a dud disk. It should have warned you during the copy process that allwas not well but I've had it happen to me. Is the Write Protect tab in the correct place - padlock open/padlock closed graphic up near one of the holes at the top?

Cause: Floppy disks are unreliable. Drives are poorly made and disks are susceptible to corruption and damage.
Remedy: Get a USB flash drive for transferring files.

This has happened twice, I believe with the same disk (and thus I have written to it again).

As Lightning says, they're old hat. Anything you can fit on a floppy disk, you can attach to an e-mail. Anything a bit bigger, attach to an IM - anything over that, buy a flash drive.
