Help, my computer has been running very slow, including non responsive, and windows that will slowly scroll closed. I closed a lot of items that were running at start-up and that maybe helped a bit. When I run a scan with Norton, it always lists several program integrity problems and problems with missing program files. I also went to Windows Live Safety Center and ran a full scan. There were 3 viruses listed but I received a notice that they couldn't be fixed.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Do you have a log or name and location of these?

oh, are you referring to the viruses? if correct, unfortunately no, I inadvertantly "continued" the steps and didn't write down or get the virus info-I won't let that happen again

Ok, the scan is running-it took almost 90 mins last time, so it may be awhile before I get back with the results

The purple face is just code you need to turn smilies off to get rid of it, but don't worry about it. That happens sometimes.

You need to empty your Norton Quarantine Items, I don't use Norton so I'm not sure how to do that.

Have you installed the new Microsoft patch? If not you should check out this link:

ok, I installed the patch (thanks), emptied the norton quarantined items and even re-booted-when I was attempting to reboot I received an "error code":

dwwin.exe.DLL Initialization Failed

Is this something to be concered about?

That is Dr. Watson, ignore it and reboot the machine. Let us know what happens after that.
