 Hey guys, my friend just received a 320gb hard drive from his friend. We know that the bios needed to be upgraded so he bought a Ultra ATA/133 PCI CARD with drivers but his computer doesn't recognize the entire drive, maybe a third of it. Anyone have any suggestions on this?

Thanks

What machine/mainboard is it? What operating system and service pack level? What card?

We really don't have much to go on here.

You need to disable the PC's on-board IDE controller in the BIOS and use the BIOS on the card to set up the drive.

I disabled thr Onboard FDD Controler. What is the FDD Controler and was that the one I was supposed to disable? They also on On Chip something but didn't touch them.

Thanks

If the drive is connected to the controller card, there is no need to disable the mb ide.

Some things to check.

1 Does the drive have a size limiting jumper and is this jumper being used?

2 Some controller cards need to have their bios and or drivers updated in order to "See" large hd. I have a promise card around here somewhere that this was required in order to "See" drives larger than 137 gig.

3 Check the card mfg's web site for updated drivers / bios.

4 What does disk management show for the drive? Is there any unallocated space?

Just my opinion, however I would take the compusa brand card back and install a promise or highpoint controller card.

Out of curiosity, since you haven't posted back, were you able to get this problem solved?

is the paritioning correct.

is the cluster size correct.

if it is too large, you can waste a lot of space. but i never seen a bad cluster size do that.

try the hard drive on another computer
