5 month old laptop painfully slow

    Hi, I have i bought my laptop mid february, and over the last month or so it has been getting slow on startup, and the last few days are even worse, generally taking around 10-15 minutes before i am able to do anything, and when i am using it freezes every so often. I have removed nearly all programs from startup, defragmented it, ran malwarebytes, ran an avast scan, all to no avail. When it freezes and i bring up task manager the memory is generally around 50% and cpu 20% maximum. Can anyone help me?

    I'm just gonna take a guess on your cpu. when you start it open task manager and see what your processor stress is at.

    Right click task bar (bottom) > start task manager. Just in case you don't know.

    Hi thanks for reply, only just seen it. I started up laptop and checked and it was showing around 19%
    But after a while whilst keeping watch it kept shooting up to around 70% and it was 'System idle process' using it all.

    5 - Uninstall useless unused stuff
    6 - All scans again

    Virus & malware Scan already done. Chkdsk already run. Nothing left to unistal, havent really installed anything on here since ive had it. The onlything out that list i havent done is an adware scan

    Do the following in the order listed.

    -------------------------------------------------------

    Download and save and then install the free version of

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.62.0.1300

    SUPERAntiSpyware 5.5.0.1012

    Make sure to update their definition files during the install process.

    Make sure to uncheck and decline to install any extras, such as toolbars and homepages, they may offer.

    After they're installed and updated, restart the computer.

    Run a QUICK scan with each of them.

    When each scan is finished, select and remove EVERYTHING they found.

    Restart the computer, if prompted to, so the removal process can finish.

    Note: DON'T use the computer while each scan is in progress.

    -------------------------------------------------------

    Click Start - Run, then type in

    %temp% (% is the percentage symbol on the number 5 key)

    and then click OK.

    Once that temp folder appears and you can view its contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside it.

    If a few files resist being deleted, that's normal behavior. Leave them alone and delete EVERYTHING else.

    If a massive number of files are being deleted, the computer may appear to "hang". Be patient and wait for the deletion process to finish.

    After it's done, restart the computer.

    I already have malwarebytes but checked for upgrades and ran a scan and found nothing
    Downloaded & updated Superantispyware and ran a scan and found 202 tracking cookies

    Cleared everything in temp folder, restarted and no difference

    Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - "Startup" tab.

    Write down ONLY the names in the "Startup Item" column that have a checkmark next to them.

    If the "Startup Item" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column.

    Submit those names here in a vertical list.

    Make sure to spell them EXACTLY as you see them there.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

    Go to Start - Run - SERVICES.MSC - OK.

    Write down ONLY the names in the "Name" column that have their startup type set on Automatic and Automatic(Delayed Start).

    If the "Name" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column.

    Submit those names here in a vertical list and in alphabetical order.

    Make sure to spell them correctly.

    Also I don't know if it is somehow connected but whilst i was typing this out my screen went black, came back but the toolbar etc was blue instead of purple. After about 5 mins it flashed again and went back to normal

    Sorry leajones, I was away for some time and the idle process is just how much your computer is idle, but someone with more knowledge is helping you so I'll leave it to him.

    Go back to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - "Startup" tab.

    Remove the checkmark in these startup entries:

    Realtek HD Audio Manager

    Intel(R) Common User Interface

    Intel(R) Common User Interface

    Intel(R) Common User Interface


    Click Apply - OK/Close - Exit Without Restart.

    Go back to Start - Run - SERVICES.MSC - OK.

    Double-click these service entries, one at a time, to open their properties window:

    Adobe Acrobat Update Service

    Distributed Link Tracking Client

    IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules

    Microsoft .Net Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_x64

    Microsoft .Net Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_x84

    Program Compatibility Assistant Service

    Windows Defender

    Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework

    Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service


    Change "Startup Type" to Manual, then click Apply - OK.

    After you're done, look at the rest of the service entries.

    If "Startup Type" in any of them is set on Disabled, change it to Manual, then click Apply - OK.

    After you're all done, restart the computer.

    There are several service entries in your list that I'm not familiar with, so I don't know if any of them are having a negative impact on startup time and performance.

    The display screen flashing and going black is of concern because there may be an unknown hardware issue.

    Thanks have tried that but still no difference. Starting to think it will either have to be sent back or taken into a shop to get looked at.

    You might consider doing a system recovery back to its original factory condition and getting a fresh start with it BEFORE you send it to Acer or have a local computer shop look at it.

    If you can remember what you installed in it BEFORE you started having these issues with it, you can go from there.
