    Hi, I am running Minecraft 1.2.5 on my computer and I have Java 7 Update 4 64 bit and 32 bit installed on my computer.

    However, when I change my render distance to far on Minecraft, it tells me I should run 64 bit Java for better performance. Should it not be recognising that I have the 64 bit version already?

    Thanks.

    I know i'm kinda stating the obvious but have you removed older versions of java incase you've installed a 32bit instead.

    I'm not fully sure what you mean, but yes, I have removed all older versions of Java.

    Thanks.

    You say that you have 64bit and 32bit java installed on your computer? uninstall the 32bit version

    Just uninstall the all versions, use a cleaner app to remove all traces of the previous versions of java, then install the 64-bit version.

    Except don't use a cleaner. Unless you are marking down specific registries you can cause more of a mess.

    E.g. Clean -> Browser Add-Ons gone -> Can't connect to anything.

    That is just one of the most frustrating issues when using cleaners. As said before, if you want to remove a registry do it with a program that targets specific files or dive in to regedit and hunt them down lol.

    don't uninstall anything or clean anything
    first of all: are you running minecraft in your browser or in a separate game window
    if in browser are you using 32 bit IE or 64 bit IE to run it
    java 64 bit ONLY works in 64 bit IE not in 32 bit & also won't work in minecraft running as a stand alone program becasue the stand alone version of minecraft is a 32 bit program
    64 bit java only works with 64 bit programs

    minecraft 1.2.5 is the computer version not browser based

    I agree, unless you know what you are doing with your registry i would suggest you follow Sick_Jargon's instructions.
