Thanks for jumping in here Tony....you're the best !!
all this bowing to you, sure makes my back hurt ;) :D

Paul.....we still need to take care of the antivirus issue. If you are going to run the F-Secure, then you need to get rid of the Norton. It's going to cause major conflicts. You should be running a firewall, as well. Let us know what you decide and we can go from there if you should need help.

Also......what did you find out about that IBS file ?

    You're welcome, guys! :)

About the firewall, if you do have Sygate, use that one and shut down the Windows firewall.

As an antivirus, Norton is one of the best, and it's considered slightly superior to F-Secure as well.

So if you gotta choose, choose NAV.

    Thanks again!

Yes, I'll stick with NAV, although recent tests showed it missed lots of Trojans & Spyware and that eAnthology 'Stop Sign' showed me 16 (I think) files that Norton had missed.

I'll switch off the XP firewall, as suggested.

    Thanks again, I'm delighted!!

    Glad we could help, Paul.....:)

make sure that your NAV is configured properly. Check in options that it is scanning all files and folders (and compressed) and that it is scanning your email, as well.

Be sure to download that SpyBot.....it will take care of the spyware.

    Good Luck to you.....

eAnthology is a fraud, and it's even targeted by SpyBot.

Here are some test results by the independent and authoritative Virus Bulletin:

Glad to see that you have it sorted out. Thanks to Tony for popping in to save the day. I have been surfing these boards for three and a half years and in my book Tony is the best I've seen at solving these mysteries. No dis-respect meant for anyone else here, there are many great techs surfing this site.

If you have problems in the future stop back and let us know. If related to this you can search your user name and add to this post and if not just start a new one.

"Any suggestions as to which anti-virus app. is best? I was using Norton, then I saw it rated 3rd in two surveys and downloaded F-Secure (which completely hangs the system, by the way), now I'm not running one at present, but have XP firewall & Sygate Personal Firewall running."

My vote would be for NAV too but not with all the bundled programs (crash guard, etc..). As for F-secure hanging my guess would be that all the removed junk caused that.

    Happy Surfing
