The file downloaded as a 182 KB file with the filename
    8052k1214.zip
and subsequently unzipped into a 256 KB file with the filename
    2k1214w5.bin.

How do I run and use this file?

More than likely you'll need a flash program that comes with that. Some of the older BIOS updates had a seperate Flash Utility that you had to download also. Try looking on the website to see if you can find anything that resembles a flash utility program.

Typically with the bin files, you have to put both that and the flash program on a floppy and boot into a command prompt and then run the flash program off the floppy.

Are you getting this update from Award? Or are you getting it from HP/Compaq?

I got it from the AWARD site. I'm not going to bother with it. This desktop is 5 years old and running fine.(y)

You'll have to go to HP/Compaq website. Do a search for drivers and software for your model of computer. That should give you a BIOS to use. I don't know where you would have gotten anything from Awards website. They dont make motherboards, just the BIOS chips. With being an advanced distiguised member with over 11,000 posts, have you never done a BIOS upgrade before? Just a question, I know you've helped me out on a couple things before.

This desktop was put together in a "ma-and-pa" store about 5 years ago and isn't a known factory-brand model with a website. It was given to me last week by a computer club member who didn't want it anymore. The current BIOS in it is AWARD 6.00 PG, dated 02-27-2000. And yes, I've done BIOS updates several times in the past in my other computers, which are HP and Compaq.
