My husband was curious what does it mean when you are reformating your hard drive, what does Recovering allocations mean?

He's been trying to format his computer for over 24 hours, it will start and get up a ways, and then it would terminate. Should he keep on trying, should he let it rest for awhile and try again? The last time it got up to 98% complete and then terminated....Just looking for input.

Reformatting SHOULD only take 40-60 mins TOPS!

Not 24 hours, Something is wrong if he can't get it to reformat in less time than that. I don't know what but it is.

What computer are you on? A second computer in the same house? Liz

I'm on my computer! He's trying to reformat(not defrag) his laptop. He had some problems that he didn't know how to fix so he thought he would just start over with a clean slate....

In the future he should know that the install CD for the OS can do the format.
