When you call Microsoft to activate Windows XP and they give you those sets of numbers to enter in the activation screen, are those numbers saved anywhere in your computer?

I was going to write them down as they were given to me, but I didn't get a chance to.

Good queston . . I asked them one time if the one they gave over the phone was the string I should use if I had to reinstall and the response was no . . that I should use the original COA . . even though it may require another phone call . . but I did not check to see what was captured in the system

If you save the WPA.DBL and WPA.BAK from your \Windows\system32 folder, you can copy them back if you reformat and not go through activation.
