Okay this problem started this morning and it just seems to be getting worse. Here are some system details to begin with:
Operating System: Windows XP SP@ (also all windows updates downloaded as well)
Processor: Athlon XP 3200+
Video Card: NVidia GEForce FX 5200 128mb
RAM: 1 GB DDR Ram

Okay...When I booted up this morning and it is still continuing now...got past the boot screen and the windows screen with the loading bar underneath it. Once it gets to the login screen, the problems start. IT takes about 5 minutes with the message "Windows is starting..." before I can choose my account (it is the only one on the system and is password protected). AFter I get to choose that, it takes about 4 minutes to load my personal settings before it enters Windows. After it enters windows, I have no taskbar and pressing the windows button on my keyboard does nothing to upen up the start menu. I can get into task manager and I do not see any abnormal files running at all, but I did notice something in task manager that seemed rather...different. It usually shows where the process is running under (SYSTEM, username, etc), but this time it did not show any of this, except for System Idle Process.

I can navigate in my computer, but it will not allow me to defrag, or access the "system" option in control panel. I was able to run a disk error check the next time I rebooted, which took forever. Also none of my internet browsers could show up on the screen. They showed up in task manager, but would not allow me access to them. When shutting down, it would not save my user settings. It stayed on the "Saving User Settings" for more than 10 minutes, but it never completed it. There was little to no hard drive activity during this time.

This computer was working fine yesterday. It normally boots up in less than 15 seconds and shuts down rather fast. Lately though (since the last windows update), a lot of my programs have been crashing. These include winamp and bittorent. They crash almost every time I opened them. I am think this might have something to do with this problem.

How do I fix this?

I also just tried copying files to another hard drive and it will not let me. I cannot drag and drop nor can I copy anything. I am trying to repair windows, but it froze on the screen that told me to choose what installation of windows I wanted to repair
