    A testing thread.

Testing to see if anything like this shows up with twitter and facebook links on top.

I want NOTHING to do with sites like that and I started a tread and seen that at the top and freaked out.

What is going on here with that at the top of the thread because I never seen it before in any thread I started.
I posted that in the Photo Album thread so maybe it is that way now but still I do not like it.

    Is this something new?
Can everyone see it or just who starts a thread?

If this is new how can I turn it OFF.

Plus why if no one else posted in the thread I could not delete the thread because you used to be able to delete a thread you made if no one posted.

What crap Harry? What are you trying to do? You've posted this elsewhere and asked for it to be deleted as well.

Yes, the Twitter/Facebook links are relatively new and only shows up when you start a new thread. You can't disable it yourself.

You can delete your posts if it's within 24 hours but you can't delete a thread so that's why when you're down to only one post left you can't delete it yourself.

OK that darn thing is on the top of this thread too.
So I posted to delete this thread.
Then it was not at the top of the thread and now it's at the top again.

I do not want this junk added or even more I do not want to be added to those trash sites.

    PLEASE DELETE MY THREAD

THEN please mods post what is going on in a new thread.

Why start a new thread? We can continue the discussion here. Those links you're seeing at the top are not adding you to those sites Harry, they are only links in case the thread starters want to link/associate their threads with those sites. You would have to click on them and carry out the function in order to do that. They are merely displayed, as the smaller ones are at the bottom of the thread. :)

I posted again outside the image thread thinking it was just for that thread.

So is this something everyone sees?

So many bad things go on at those sites with Facebook being the really bad one that I do not link my name, etc posted there.

Why don't we have way to turn this off?

Now that added part at the top is not showing up.
It seem to come and go so what is going on.
How new is this seeing how I have not seen anyone post about it or just have not seen a post that talked about it.

You're the only one who sees it and I believe it's only when you first start the thread. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it comes back after that. It doesn't tie you in any way with those sites. I understand how you feel because I don't want anything to do with those sites either. But I agree that it would be nice to have an option for members to disable it. Let's see what Mike says about that. :)

Thanks cookies, I feel better no one else can see it because it scares me with all the bad things you hear going on with Facebook.
Sister had to wipe out her PC and she is a tech because my brother is with Facebook. He did not send the email either and my sister said she never even open the email.
I think from phone call and going over there I helped her get it off her PC and all was OK but she used it as a reason to get Windows 7.
Avast keep saying see had it when she deleted the mail in Thunderbird. But it sees what is in the .msf files till you compact them and they rewrite what is really there.

Yes be nice to turn it.

Maybe Mike can post a thread saying more so others do not freak out like I did because I really freaked as you can see.

In my opinion it's more than a tad deceitful. Posts on Facebook for example will only be seen by your confirmed friends. Of those, few are likely to have the tech savy to solve the issue and of those very few will not only notice but feel strongly enough to sign up to answer (a few might possibly post a suggestion on Facebook, but then we've just introduced cross-site posting problems!).

I understand that it is a useful promotional device for TSG so that the site ranks better on google (having more links to it) and is more of a familiar name when people have a problem. But to suggest that people will get help posting on FB or twitter is a very devious strategem for assuring this kind of advertising. Making the buttons so obtrusive just makes it that much worse.

but then, if someone links a question to Facebook, wouldn't the answers also show up there? Therefore I also don't want to have any connections to Facebook or anything else like that.
My middle name is also "Paranoid"

    Well said "Paranoid" :p

What was it some months back no matter how high you setting were at Facebook if a people or friend at Facebook had you on there friend list then others could still find out things about you even if your setting was to not show the info. Now that really scares me. Sites like can not be trusted and so many site are hooked up with Facebook links.
People getting facebook cookies from other site was another thing. I added facebook to my hosts file to kill anything from the site.
Another bad then when well known companys are hooked up at Facebook and to get info from there site you have to go to Facebook and even worse if you can only see that info if you login so you need to sign up just to see a web page.
Avast AV is one and so many others. To me Facebook is EVIL. A wolf looking like a sheep so you better watch out because your not seeing what is really there.
Just like the all in one password google, hotmail etc now have is for dumb people. Someone gets that password then they can get to all the others accounts that are hooked up to that account. Not to smart of a way to protect anything.
