    Hi,
First time posting - I've managed to fix things before by lurking & learning, but this one's got me beat!

I have been getting the about:blank hijack all day. I get rid of it, it comes back. You know the deal.

cwsshredder (v1.57.0.0) doesn't see it. I have enclosed a HijackThis log - I don't have an up to date HijackThis (I have v1.97.0.7). When I try to download the latest, from any site, my explorer crashes (is this linked, or am I paranoid?)

I have no dodgy dlls of around 36kb in system32. I installed the latest realplayer this morning, so I have a lot of new dlls, but they all claim to be from real networks.

    This is my log:

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7
Scan saved at 20:13:02, on 25/04/2004
Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)

your log looks clean. about blank is just setting your web-page to blank. It is not spyware , a virus or a hijacker!

Have you ran Adaware & Spybot SD??. If not download --update and run them. It would also help if it was known how you "get rid of it"?. Also remember system restore.

My ad-aware & spybot were a bit out of date (not a lot, but enough). I downloaded them at work today & brought them home on a disk. The ad-aware seems to have got the varmint - it cleared 9 different cws files. Three hours later, and it hasn't come back yet!

From now on, at least once a week, I'll check for microsoft, spybot, hijack this & ad-aware updates. That's the best advice I can give!

    Thanks for the replies,
    Harley
