Hi Gigs1123

Welcome to TSG! :)

Go here and download Adaware SE. Install the program then in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files. but don't run it.

Also click here to download CWSinstall.exe. CWSinstall.exe file and it will install CWShredder, but don't run it yet either.

Set your folder options to show hidden files like so:

Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to a convenient location like your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.

Restart into Safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Do all of the following in safe mode:

Run Hijack This and put a check by all of the following entries then click the "Fix Checked" button.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\Mom\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.dll/sp.html

Thank you and I'm very sorry about the other post, I'm new and nervous about all this. One question...before I do this, I have 5 users. Do I need to do this on all 5 of them or should i just delete everyone but administrator? Thank you again, I appreciate the help..

Yes you will need to clean all 5 user accounts. When you get this one clean, post a Hijack This log from the next user. When we get that one clean we can do the next one. It is best to do them one at a time as it will be less confusing that way.

Hi again. I went into safe mode but ran into a dilemma. It gave me a choice of only 2 users, Administrator or Dad. In regular mode their are 5 choices...Mom,Dad and our 3 kids (but not administrator). I thought Mom WAS the admin. but in safe mode the HJT log was different with no Mom\LOCALS~1\Temp choices. I fixed all similiar files containing about:blank and about:navigationfailure and also the others you listed. How can I fix the Mom ones in safe mode? Also had to search for ad-aware and hijack etc because not in same folder that I had in regular mode. After I get through this (fingers-crossed, lol) I plan to delete all other users and just run off of one, but how do I get the main administrator in the reg. mode? One last thing...would it be time saving to delete them now and just keep Mom? Thanks so much for any help. I may lose power to the blizzard coming, in case I don't reply in a day or two. Thanx again!

If you are planning on deleting the other user accounts anyway, yes it would be time saving to go ahead and delete them now.

Finally back online after blizzard here. I will keep Mom and Dad just in case one of us are the administrators. How do I get into Mom in safemode though, when it doesn't give me that choice? I'll wait until I hear from you before starting...Thanks

Hello, here is the latest hijackthis log done on Mom's user. I'm still not sure if I am the administrator, but it is how I booted into safe mode, so...? Hopefully there will show some changes since going into safemode. I really appreciate all the help you've given me so far. I hope I can rid this computer of this problem. Please let me know what I should do next.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0

Set your folder options to show hidden files like so:

Click on My Computer then click Tools > Folder Options. In Folder options click on the View tab. Under Files and Folders tick "Show hidden files and folders" then uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)". Now click "Like current folder" then "Apply" and "OK"

Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to a convenient location like your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.

Restart into Safe mode.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vioz1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dssenh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\6yf1uw.exe

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\WINNT\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Run CWShredder Click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Next run Adaware according to these insrructions:

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.

I did everything you listed, but had no WINNT file. Everything in a temp folder I did find was empty. Here is my latest HJT log, but again it shows about:blank. It was also run off of Mom which I do not get the choice of when I go into safe mode. Please help with this confusion, thank you again for your time on this.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0

It seems anything I do in safe mode does not correct this log in regular mode.

Copy the contents of the quote box to Notepad.
Name the file Appinit.bat
Save as type All Files
Save on the Desktop.

Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
ren windows1.hiv windows.txt
Double click on Appinit.bat
This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt
Attach the windows.txt file here to your next post please. Don't copy and paste it.
----------------

Which version of XP are you running? Pro or Home?
Also which file system? FAT32 or NTFS? Check the properties of the C Drive in my computer to get the file system.
