Ac wattage and type cannot be determined

I tested the charger by putting it in different pc of same model it is not working and showing same error message that "you ac adaptor wattage and type cannot be determined and battery may not charge , system will reduce performance to cop up with it . So , tell me whether this charger can be repaired or i have to buy a new one..
I am using Dell pc

Hello and welcome to TSG!!

Some AC adapters have a small needle-like pin inside the barrel of the connector that may interface with the laptop power circuitry, for example to tell it what power level it is. Dell has made use of several power levels, i.e. 65W, 90W, etc. This pin may identify the power supplied by the adapter.

Can you see if there is a small pin inside the barrel of the connector you are plugging into the laptop?
