Hi Welcome to TSG!!

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the c:\SDFix folder and double click RunThis.cmd to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the script.
  • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

Cybertech,

I had uninstalled Mcafee because I had received a message that some components were missing and I needed to reinstall it. So I did after doing the SDFix. However after McAfee ran a system scan, I get blank screens when attempting to enter secure sites. McAfee also seemed to have disappeared after that scan. Anyway I tried to reinstall McAfee again but was unable to because I get that blank screen I was telling you about. I tried a ComboFix solution I read about on this site. But it did not work. So I stopped b4 I got deeper in trouble. I downloaded AVG from your suggestion and below is that log as well as the HJT log.

I tried a ComboFix solution I read about on this site.

If you want my help please do not run anything that I don't ask you to run. Combofix is not for fixing McAfee!

Click Start - Run - and type in:
services.msc
Click OK.
In the services window find each of these one at a time.

McAfee E-mail Proxy (Emproxy)
McAfee Update Manager (mcmispupdmgr)
McAfee Services (mcmscsvc)
McAfee Scanner (McODS)
McAfee Protection Manager (mcpromgr)
McAfee Proxy Service (McProxy)
McAfee Redirector Service (McRedirector)
McAfee Real-time Scanner (McShield)
McAfee SystemGuards (McSysmon)
McAfee Privacy Service (MPS9)

Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.
Exit the Services utility.

Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Restart the machine and please post your hijackthis log again.

Cybertech, sorry about before.
Followed your instructions and below is the new HJT log. It appears that (3) of those O23 items remained. Thanks for all your help so far.

There is only one McAfee O23, that is all you need to stop.

Restart in Safe Mode.
  • To boot up in Safe mode, continuously tap the F8 key while starting your computer.
  • You should see a black screen displaying the Windows Advanced Menu Options.
  • Using your keyboard's arrow keys, select Safe mode, then hit Enter.

Click Start - Run - and type in:
services.msc
Click OK.
In the services window find:

McAfee Real-time Scanner (McShield)

Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.
Exit the Services utility.

Now restart in normal mode.

Your Java is out of date. Use Secunia software inspector & update checker and remove all old versions from add/remove programs.

Post a new hijackthis log and let me know if you are having any problems.

Cybertech,
I went into safe mode to disable (it's already stopped) McAfee Real-time Scanner (McShield). I get this message "Unable to open service McShield for writing on local computer Error 5: Access is denied. I updated Java and removed a prior update. Only problem that I experience is blank pages at certain sites like hotmail. Thanks so far. Have a good weekend.
