    Hi there

I am using Access 2003 and have 200 clients I am adding field names and data types at present to set-up a database and want later on to be able to use the sub-form in forms to up-load each individuals personal word .doc CV to there personal sub-form record. Do I set this early on in data type or field properties or use OLE to look up there record on the server depending on the clients name or automated client number? If so how exactly can I do this if it can be done. I only have basic college knowledge of Access so do not know any programming. I realise this can be done in Excel but my boss wants if possible to have the information at hand in a sub-form personal record ready possibly by accessing it via a control button so once clicked the CV will appear for that client and every client once viewing their record details.

    Thank you

    kittycat, welcome to the Forum.
Can you clarify if you want to "Import" the CV data in to an Access Table or just link to the Word document to view it?

    Hi there

I want to be able to link the word docs to each client, I have googled the issue and only come up with the idea to add an attachment via the data type menu but this is in Access 2007. But even so not sure how to link all 200 CV's to each record without doing it individually one by one, was hoping there is a way for a control button added to a sub-form that will lookup a CV depending which client record is open once the button is clicked. Other if not possible is there a way in field properties or from the data type menu that will do the same later on in my form or sub-form.

    Thanks

Using the attachment feature does not put the document in the database, it only makes a reference to it in the file system. If the path to that file ever or the name ever changes the reference or link is broken. I am sure you could use an OLE control to embed the document, but the same external reference would still apply.

You may just want to keep all of the information directly in the persons record and then you can pull it up at will in a report or edit the record as needed.

You would need to link to each word doc one at a time.
It is possible to put all the word doc names and paths in to an Access table using VBA and then link to those, but it would still require manual linking.
But this can of course be done when veiwing the person's record for the first time.
