Plugin a Sansa mp3 player and it is listed in device mgr as a portable device. It is not assigned a drive letter. So how can I access it within a batch file ?.

You need to go to Disk Management and assign it a drive letter.
Right click My Computer, click Manage, click Disk Management.
Though that should have been done automatically.
If it used to have a drive letter on this system, and you added anything that is using that letter, it might not be assigned a new one.

Do all your hard drives and CD/DVD drives appear in Disk Management?
Do you have any other USB Flash drives or memory cards, and if so, do they appear in Disk Management?
Has this device ever worked on this system?
Does it work on other systems?
Have you tried other USB ports? Often the ones on the back of the PC are the best to test with so there are no Hubs or wiring issues to deal with.

Everything else is there with a drive letter assigned.
I unplugged the MagicJack and a usb floppy drive, started up and same issue.
If I plug in a card reader with an sd card, it shows up with a drive letter attached.

This Sansa mp3 played just shows up as a Sansa Fuze 4gb. without a drive letter.
I can access this mp3 drive, but can't reference it in a batch file.

If I go to manage - not there.
Device manager - listed under Portable Devices
Checked properties but there isn't any location to select or enter a drive letter.

That took care of it. I had browsed the site before but didn't see these solutions.
Changed the Fuze usb to MSC and now it assigns a drive letter.
    Thanks.

Wasn't that hard of a Google search.

I literally just searched for "Sansa Fuze assign drive letter" and those were the first couple of links.
