Was given an Acer Aspire 5552 laptop. The friend of mine said that it was showing an Windows Message that showed hard drive issues.. and to backup.. he had tried to run an erecovery and it failed.. since the erecovery was ran the machine will no longer boot up . as soon as you turn the machine on it briefly shows the Acer splash screen and then shows..

NO bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.

I do not have any system recovery or boot disks available, i have tried Alt +f10 and it brings up the erecovery and i have chosen multiple options but all fail.. If i choose the top option "completely restore system to factory defaults" one time it may go 20 % next time 90 % but it will fail. message shows.

    Notice
resotre failed - error code 0x570 winmapplyimage cannot apply image, the ile or directory is corrupted and unreadable

My guess is that the Hard Drive has failed or is failing and or is corrupt.. I have no repair, boot, or os disks , any suggestions or ideas ?

That is what those messages are basically telling you. It hasn't found a hard drive

Remove and reseat the hard drive and see if they go away.

You may be able to boot from a CD or USB and test the hard drive if it is recognised.

Download the Ultimate Boot CD from http://majorgeeks.com/Ultimate_Boot_CD_d4981.html fr example.

Burn a CD from the ISO or use a logical CD drive to access the CD and use the script on there to create a USB version.

Start the UBCD and locate the manufacturers disk tools and run the one for your disk.

Also run CHKDSK /F against it.

Please do not run the repair from a Windows Install disk until you've tried other tools first.
There are places you can get legal copies of the Windows DVD from.
