I'm hoping to be able to upgrade the CPU in my ageing and overworked Acer Aspire G600p Desktop computer currently with a Pentium 4 2Ghz socket 478 on an Acer j87m board. Does anyone know what the maximum performance I can upgrade to? I'm seeing on eBay that 3Ghz P4's are very cheap but I don't know if this computer supports Hyperthreading.
Any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

The fastest P4 you can throw in there is 3.4 GHz. But if you could find a P4 Extreme 3.4 GHz then it would be a bit faster. That is your best bet.

The Fsb on this unit is 400 and 533, that leads me to believe that the top here is 3.06 533 fsbh cpu which bec ause it's the top of the line can be pricey...a 2.8 533 could give you a nice jump.
