    Hi,

only just registered and asking this question on behalf of my girlfriend.

She has the above laptop and OS. She leaves it on sleep most of the time and recently there was a Windows update which woke the machine up and carried out the update. The power supply was off and the battery doesn't last too long, so she thinks that the laptop may have lost power during an update.

Now she tries to turn it on, we see the Acer logo, it has the green progress bar for Vista for a few seconds, then restarts. We have tried System Recovery and it doesn't seem to say anything is wrong. We can't access Safe Mode as it continues with the restart cycle.

After pressing F8, we have tried 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and get the error code 0x0000007B.

We don't have a recovery disk with us but may be able to find one. However, is there anything else we can try, maybe using my laptop to get through the boot up?

If not, is there a way to backup the hard drive? Treat me like an idiot with this, although I do know one or two things.

    Many thanks in advance
