I have an acer ax3400g-u4802 that won't connect to the internet. I use an ethernet cable. I have done a system restore to when it was working, but it didn't help. Tried plugging cord into other device and it worked fine, but my desktop won't connect.

What Operating system? What kind of router/modem/gateway?

Is there a RED X or a YELLOW ! on the network icon in the taskbar?

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

    [Press ENTER after the command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

This computer is from 2010 so the ethernet card could have died.

Is the any light at the ethernet port?
Green means it is alive and knows there is a cable in it.

Ok yellow "!" means you're getting a signal from router but you are not having a valid IP address.

Using the above instructions go back into the command prompt

type the following WITHOUT THE " " marks

    IPCONFIG /release (Press Enter)

    IPCONFIG /renew (Press Enter)

Remove the Ethernet cable from the computer, but not the routers port. Power down the computer completely.

Unplug the routers power cable and wait 60 seconds.

Plug the router back into the power outlet, and wait about 10 minutes for it to COMPLETELY power on and reconnect to the ISP.

When the routers fully synced and back online, plug the computers Ethernet cord back into the router and power on the computer.

Advise if issue is still there.

Uninstall Norton and run Symantec's Removal Tool. If it is still not getting an IP configuration assigned after a Restart it is probable that the ethernet adapter has died. I would try a USB ethernet adapter.
