Acer Monitor - "No signal

I believe that my problem is one that might have been answered before, but I have not been able to find the answer.
I have an Acer monitor, and usually leave my computer, monitor, printer etc turned on, but I have just been on holiday and before going away, I turned everything off. I returned home today and when I turned my computer on, I got a message on the monitor saying Acer and then "No Signal" and then the screen went black.
I tried googling my problem, and the "solution" I found was to unplug the monitor and to hold down the monitor power switch for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. This did not work. (I am assuming that the "power switch"is the yellow/blue light at the bottom right corner of the monitor?)

I assume this is a desktop.

Have you tried the monitor on another system? If not, then do so to be sure the monitor in fact works.

Post back with the result and [if necessary] we can further troubleshoot.

Thank you, crjdriver. Yes, the computer is a desktop. I don't have another desktop at home that I can try the monitor on, but I will take it to work tomorrow, and will report back after trying the monitor on a desktop there.
