Hi since i have installed WIn Xp pro on my pc iam having various crashes at random times with this error

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

I have read previous threads but nothing seems to help i have downloaded the supposed to be latest update to flash my bios which i also did but the error still happens, my Motherboard is an IWill VA 133 plus motherboard, (it has also been phased out).
    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Even with the latest updated ACPI BIOS it appears not to be compatible with XP. Your motherboard must be old and I would guess the manufacture will never provide a newer version that will work completely. I would go into BIOS and disable ACPI or get a newer motherboard that states is is compatible with Windows XP.

I wish I had better news.

I think Don O is correct that you will need to use a standard hal. If you disable acpi, you will probably need to at least reinstall some drivers. You may need to do a repair install of xp or a complete reinstall. Before you disable acpi, backup anything important.
