I downloaded the trial version so i could merge the 10 GB OS partition with the 10 GB Program files partition. When I try and do this it says its analyzing the OS partition (C:) the HDD light blinks but in task manager it says not responding. I've let it sit for 10 minutes and nothing seems to be happening. This scares me that a program that is supposed to be merging 2 partitions is freezing up. Any recommendations?

I would move or at least copy all my data from the partition that is being removed to the one that will be receiving the data on the merge.

This is based on my experience with Partition Magic. It is a very good program but not free unless you catch one of their frequent offers of a zero net price after rebates.

I lost my data once doing a merge with Partion Magic when I left the data untouched in both drives. Did it again but moved all the data first and there was no problem.

That time, I deleted the empty partition and then resized the one with the data using the unallocated space created by the deletion of a partition.

Maybe XP disk management would work if you did it that way. I don't know that it will because I have never tried it with that program but it does seem to have some good qualities.

Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 trial version has the following limitations:

* Only partitions of the minimum size (1 cylinder ~ 7,8 MBytes) can be created (both in Windows and in rescue mode)
* Acronis OS Selector trial period expires after 15 days, and then starts with a 15 seconds delay
* No other operations can be commited.
