I have seen many posts about this issue. complex solutions to make old Act! software run on windows 7. I could not persuade any to work for me. but like many, I loved the simplicity of act and wanted to still use it for general records etc. I have Act! 2000 and hi spec windows 7 PC.
IN particular, i did try to instal it it using the setup.exe in the act directory not allowing the auto instal to run, as that failed every time. (as I read, the install feature cant run on 64 bit system). But this approach only got me so far and would try to install the application on a random drive letter that did not exist... so that failed too.
Finally I started up the PC in safe mode. tried to install and Bingo, using the setup.exe file (not the auto install feature) it all installed fine and runs OK when starting windows 7 normally.
I cant comment on how well (if at all) this approach links to office applications outside Act! but for me that does not matter. but in other respects it works fine. Phew. saved a lot of work dumping my data in some new database system. :D;)
