Hey 'Guys'

Having just recently re-installed Windows XP, it has told me that I have 30(now 26) days to activate windows. i have tried activating online but it gets to as far as entereing the product key, I have used the product key that is situated on my modem tower, however it doesnt seem to think that i have typed in the correct code.

Thanks

Where did you get the XP CD?

By "modem tower" I assume you mean the actual computer case. Did you install Windows using the disks that came with this computer?

Yes that is correct. We have two windows xp home edition computers. I am not sure whether i used the one that came with this one or the other. Whilst installing it asked for the reg key and i typed that in fine and it was ok.

Ok I am confused here, in your first post you said this
however it doesnt seem to think that i have typed in the correct code.
And in your last post you said this:
Whilst installing it asked for the reg key and i typed that in fine and it was ok.
Something is not making sense to me here, when you install and type in the product code and its a bad code you wont be able to complete the install.

It is easy just call the number on the authentication screen and Microsoft will solve the problem for you. More than likely your Windows XP was installed at the factory under a site license and the product ID on the tower sometimes does not work on a re-install. The call should resolve the problem almost immediately.

Modem Tower = Tower Case
Not sure whether I used the CD with my computer or the cd with the other computer
When i installed it it asked for the reg code on the tower case i typed it in and it worked, but now when i type it in again to activate windows it doesnt work

Hope this is clearer(y)

If you have installed two systems with the same key, they won't activate. I'm sorry, but in that case, we can't help you with this issue. You need to get a legal copy of Windows installed.

I havent used the same key though, just thought that I might of got the two cd's mixed up. When re-installing it asked for the key on the tower case and it accepted that no problem. Might ring up like ozrom1e said to.

If that's the case, I'd just call them and do the phone activation.
