HI, my firm is still using win2k server. recently we bought a new HP server with win3k server. so there come the job to migrate the server from 2000 to 2003.

i took the backup of system state using ntbackup from win 2000 server and try to restore it on 2003 in directory restore mode. And in the very next restart startup fails. do you have any way to sucessfully accomplish this task help me!!!

IIRC, the correct way is to promote and demote the relevant server to and from Domain Controller status, ensuring that the AD is replicated between them first. Then you decommission the old server after a suitable period of parallel running.

I'd start again if I were you.
