This ones has me baffled. I keep getting an active X promt stating that the page wont display properly. This Only happens on the Yahoo News page and NO where else. been going on for about a week now.

My security settings are where they need to be. Any Ideas?

    Thanks---Rick

In Internet Options > Security > Custom, do you have "script and run Active X Controls (marked as Safe)" set to "prompt"?

That is the only way I get the prompt. And it doesn't seem to matter much whether I do or not. Opera, which does not use ActiveX displays fine as well.

By what your saying i take it you want it from Promt to enable. You didnt specify. i did set it to from promt to enable and it didnt make a difference.

Normally it would not be "prompt" to run. Try clicking the "reset" to defaults. Does the problem still occur?

Yes, i did a reset but the problems still there. This only happens on Yahoo News. The rest of Yahoo and the Internet, this has not occured. I'm starting to think the problem is on Yahoo's end for what ever reason...

At default settings you shouldn't be getting any prompts; it should just run automatically.

Are you okaying the running of the control? Conceivably it could be for a Macromedia flash install, but you would have to let the download complete and then okay another prompt to install.

What you might do is install and run HijackThis:

Download and install HijackThis using the "self extractor". Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

    http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/hijackthis_sfx.exe

You can post the log here for us to see, but what I would be looking for is any Yahoo entries in the 016 list. These are ActiveX Controls. Possibly one of them is damaged and not running properly. I would delete all the Yahoo entries and let them reinstall via prompts when you get them.

Post a HijackThis Scanlog as instructed.

Also, in the meantime, open Internet Options > Temporary Internet > Settings and open the "view objects" tab there. Look for any entries that say "damaged". These are active X objects.

Well the only Yahoo entrie in the 016 list is for the photo upload utility, and it's hard to imagine why the News site might provoke a prompt regarding that.

However, it's quite possible this is the cause:

    O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Companion BHO - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} -
    O3 - Toolbar: &Yahoo! Companion - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\COMPAN~1\Installs\cpn\ycomp5_3_12_0

I would recommend removing Yahoo Companion; use HijackThis to check and fix those entries if they remain. Then reinstall it if you want it.

You do show some signs of a prior adware infection:

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - CmdMapping - (no file)

    see: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.sidefind.html

    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trackware.anquiro.html

That can be checked and fixed in HijackThis; you might also peruse the registry for any other entries covered in the Symantec articles.

These can also be checked and "fixed", though they are just empty entries:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Before using HijackThis to delete entries you should move it to a permanent folder to preserve its backups. You currently have it in a temp directory.
