I have now installed and uninstalled the last two Ad-Aware free programs which have been preventing me from downloading file attachments received via Yahoo webmail - even Word and Excel files which I sent to myself! These come up as "unknown file format" or some such and the system will not unload them. Problem solved when Ad-Aware uninstalled. I run Windows XP Home and IE 8.

I believe I saw somewhere that there was a Lavasoft bug that conflicted with XP but in view of the popularity of the program I'd have thought it would have been jumped upon and fixed by now. Has anyone else had the same experience and/or found a way round it?

I stopped using Ad-Aware years ago after they changed it so much it was a pain to use.

If you disabled the Real Time Protection feature "Ad Watch" that should correct the blocking of attachments.

Hi,
To effectively resolve issues related to Attachments (the uploading and downloading of files or images attached to emails) in Yahoo! Mail please ensure that you have completed all of the previous troubleshooting steps in this series of articles.
The following steps are specific to attachments:

Browser download settings
Encrypted files not supported
New file
Thanks
