.. hey helpfuls.

.. would a routine (default) Ad-Aware check delete any files (.dll specifically) that would cause Internet connection problems .. ?

.. a friend's PC .. removed cd_clint.dll (among others) .. and Kazaa won't run .. now also has problems with all Internet related programs.

.. is cd_clint used by any other programs .. ?

.. I would tell him re-install Kazaa .. but he can't get online .. so I was going to go over there with cd_clint.dll in hand .. ?

.. any help is appreciated.

dump kazza, spyware at best, provides illegal software at worst

you also open your system up to the outside world and are inviting a stream of viruses ( is that virii ?) everytime you download

Loosing Kazaa can sometimes be like loosing your job: sometimes it's the best thing that ever happened to you. A friend of mine who works for an ISP calls it "the kiss of death"

agent c,

Using AdAware's out of date definitions can corrupt Winsock if the latest version of Common Name Toolbar or CN Babe are found (they trash the connection during, or because of, the removal by AdAware).

There is a fix that rebuilds Winsock which can be downloaded and installed on the infected machine. Unfortunately, I don't remember it's name but someone here will and should post it. Alternatively, you could search recent threads re; AdAware or Winsock and see what comes up.

It might also be a good idea to tell your friend to stop using AdAware and try Spybot S&D.

PS. There is a program called Hijack This which apparently fixes winsock and can be d/l to a floppy and put on the sick comp. Look here:http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
