I'm having a problem with ad-aware 6 181 failing to complete its scan and identifiying 130 object but only displayiing 2 entries in the display window. When you select the items and then press the next button to remove ... nothing appears to happen. The 2 items are related to "BONZI"
I've run spybot, spyhunter NAV 2004 to try and remove these items and I'm not sure if Adaware is giving me a false report.
Anyways, does anyone know of a BONZI removal tool. I'll run this and then re-run adaware and see if it still hangs.
Note: I'm not the only one having the hanging Adaware issue. I'm having a hard time getting to the bottom of this issues over there. (so I trying here)
Ok, i've seen your thread out here for awhile now and will answer. I'm not a techie, but I found something regarding bonzi. I used it for a pharmacy that I do software support for, he said it worked great.
Hi, I can tell you from experience with this purple pest (Bonzi Buddy) that reinstalling the whole thing and then using correct removal is probably the way to go....as it says in the article above- and, when you are uninstalling, there is a process you have to shut down first- you have to tell the purple ape "goodbye" (seriously!) so it shuts down, before trying the removal.
I did go to pchell and followed their advice, found the bonzi site and installed, rebooted, uninstalled rebooted.
I don't remember clicking on the purple imp to shut him up (or down) but I may have, I know I didn't say or type goodbye. ( I missed that part)
It appeared to release all ok, then I ran the adaware pgm... but I'm getting the same results. It appears that all files relating to bonzi are gone, it's the registry keys that appear to exist still.
This was a longshot to try to resolve the adaware issue. I'm still not getting any answer on the lavasoft site (maybe due to the weekend) I'll post if I here anything from their "experts" tomorrow.
Hi, You don't really need an expert to fix your problem, you might need a Registry cleaner, and there are several free that work very well--- provided you don't do anything but remove entries that the program tells you are not needed.
The other solution is to reinstall Bonzi and follow ALL the step by step instructions to remove it correctly, and then clean up with AdAware and SpyBot. That way works, but when parts of Bonzi install are manually removed or the running parts of Bonzi are not shut off first----your problem is the result.
One thing though- when scanning with AAW----did you have all the deep Registry scan settings enabled?? THat could make a huge difference in removing the old entries. Or, did you just install AAW and scan with the default settings??
Thanks BM, My point on the expert is I want Adaware's experts to acknowledge or outline a solution. It's not just for me, there appear to be many suffering from the same issue.
If you follow one thread on their forum site, it looks like they had the problem in early December and they have been playing "show me your log.. ok try this... ok, show me your log... try this...and on" and the thread continues up until yesterday with no resolution.
I don't have time to waste on this issue I've got computers to fix for paying customers. (I'm ranting.. I know... not the place in this forum).
I'll try your suggestions and try the reinstall & uninstall correctly. In addition I'll clean up the registry using an appropriate cleaner.
FYI, on AAW settings: yes I've been runing various setup option (deep on, deep off) since Thursday of last week. I know there are many combinations your can choose and mix and I've probably ran them all at this point.
The Lavasoft forum is manned by volunteers, just as this forum is. I sent an alert to an Admin over there to monitor your thread.
Bonzi Buddy can be difficult to fully remove ... perhaps a reminder to your clients that they should read the EULA before downloading "free" software would be in order ...
Bonzi is one the malwares that has to be uninstalled using it's own uninstaller first- or perhaps the removal tool, when Bonzi has not been messed with will work. Usually people have tried deleting this or that, and things will not work after that.
There is the trick to tell him "goodbye" as you note in the link I posted....if you do not do that, the uninstall does not work, and pieces will remain.
That's what gets most people with the removal....
You'll get it!
I fully support and participate in forums (like this and Adaware) for the common good. I know volunteers give up their time to moderate and offer experience. I'm an accomplished problem solver as well and love to dig in to unique problems. (I just got a little frustrated this weekend... no biggie, ...I'm not flaming anyone, I'm trying to get to the resolution)
Winchester, point well made, unfortunately for home users "stuff" happens because they or kids just click "yes" when downloading something "Cool". They get the baggage and the problems.
In this case they probably tried to uninstal ... and things fell apart.... and then they call me to fix. I can only advise them what not to do after the fact. It's education, once bit...
Byteman: I'm will review and redo the BONZI install/uninstall.
I will advise.
