    Is this program worth having?

When I perform the scan it tells me:

    1 Identified processes
    27 Identified registry Keys
    6 Identified folders
    51 Identified files

    85 New Components
    28 Running processes
    0 Components ignored
    85 New Components

Whatever that means lol. I deleted files I recognize like gator, cydoor etc... but not without doing a backup (I'm not completely stupid). Everytime I delete this stuff I end up getting errors and can't run programs like KaZaA so I restore the back-up and am back to square one. Basically I'm not sure which of these I am suposed to delete, and or wich ones could be harmful to delete. Also is it possible that Gator and other adware attaches itself to a program, and that am I stuck with this stuff if I want the progam?

Thanx for your time and I look foreword to any suggestions:)

    Hello!

First of all, forget Ad-aware. It has not been updated for many months and is way out of date. Get Spybot HERE

Also download and run StartupList from the same site and post the list here. Then we can take a look at what you got on your system and how to get rid of it.

REMEMBER: Getting rid of spyware is an exercise in futility if you don't first get rid of the software that is loading the spyware into your system.

As far as I am aware, version 5.83 was the final release of Ad-aware before updates were discontinued. I still recommend Spybot, which is a far better product than Ad-aware.

Should I deal with this or should I just consider wiping the computer clean reloading windows and start off with a clean slate or will some of this and other garbage still remain. Maybe a system restore back to the date we purchased it. Not that I know how to wipe it clean but it sounds good to me I have sooooooo much garbage on this thing not just in this program its every where

You keep talking Ad-aware and we keep telling you not to rely upon it! If you ask for advice but then don't bother to listen ot it, you're on your own!

I'm listening..... checkout the site looks pretty cool, but I have to crash I would really just like to try and deal with this thing before downloading something else. Plus the Licence thing kind of freaked me out actually.

    Darg mals,

You should uninstall AdAware 5.83 as its useless now. I have the Plus version 6 and, in my humble opinion, it is worth trying when the free version is available. If you do try it, read the Help file carefully as it needs more setting up than 5.83. I am currently running Spybot as well.

If you have p2p and download accelerators etc you will get lots of spyware with many of them. Check all your freeware programs at the Spywareinfo website and see if you can replace them with clean equivalents; http://www.spywareinfo.com/

remove Ad-aware version 5 entirely. Using it in its current, unupdated form can be, and has been proven to be dangerous. as you have been told to do by pyritechips and TOGG and myself

    Read This

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/december-2002/12252002.php

Go to Control panel and uninstall DownloadWare (it may be listed as 'NetworkEssentials' or 'MediaLoads Enhanced' )

    reboot

Go back to Control panel and uninstall SaveNow (it may be listed as ( WhenuSave and Save)

    reboot

    Download and install SpyBot,

    http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/

click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot.

Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on.

Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems'

you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything

    Remove everything pre-ticked in Red

Sounds like you have committed to a re-install. It doesn't sound like you actually need to go that far but if you do make sure to make it a clean install or why bother.

Everyone else has already made it clear why you should dump Ad-ware and use Spybot. Also once yo do install Spybot make sure to use it at least once a week or if you use freeware/shareware or other downloaded apps, make sure to use after installion to weed out any spies.

Also, considering much of what you have looks like it came from P2P apps, definitely only use clean version (free of spyware). I personally like Kazaalite but there are many others. Here is a link:

    Ok. One more try here.

If you have that much spyware in your computer do this:

    1) FORGET Ad-aware! It is no longer useful!

    2) Do what the previous people that have posted here have suggested. They are intelligent and experienced in this kind of thing.

    3) Read THIS

    4) At the suggestion of TonyKlien, go HERE and download spywareblaster.

    5) Run it!

    P.S.

I suppose it was a little difficult to have a light bulb moment at 3am:eek:
