Ad Hoc Connection

I'm trying to determine why my wireless connection isn't working...I'm able to connect to a wireless router; however, when I try to make an ad hoc connection(computer-to-computer connection) I'm not able to. The strange thing is that my wireless connection says that I'm connected to another computer;however, when I try to view a webpage I'm unable to. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
