My parents have Windows 98 SE
I was away on vacation and god only knows what they did to their computer.
    The internet does not work.
When we try to log on an error message comes up that say's:

E 0115: The program failed to locate a suitable adapter to make a connection. If you are using a USB DSL modem make sure the cable is plugged into your computer. It appears that you need to install an adapter into your computer. Refer to Windows Network Help Guide (which seems to be missing in action)

Another time I tried to log on it said: E 0049 failed to discover network adapters.

When I went into System Properties everything had a plus sign next to it except Network Adapters, Dial-Up-Adapter, Efficient Networks P.P.P.O.E Adapter (NTSP3) and Exsisting Ndis 2 Driver.

My parents only have one computer in their house.
Does anyone know what the problem is? and how I a can try to help them?
Like I said the net does not work at all and they are freaking because they are addicts.

    Thank you very much,
    Kathie

I do tech support for my 90-year-old mother-in-law and I've learned the first thing to check is Start>Log Off. If it's blank after "Log off," click on it and log back on using whatever user name they've been using. Most of the time when my mother-in-law loses her internet connection, it's because she hit Log Off instead of Shut Down and then it logged her back onto that "blank" user account...and all settings were gone.

If that's not it, it sounds like the network card got uninstalled. If they're on broadband (DSL or cable) they need a network card. So the first step is to reinstall the network adapter.

Thanks for answering. I have been waiting all day for a reply, my parents are desperate.
How does one reinstall the network adapter? I don't know much myself but am learning.
    Thanks, K
