    Hi there
I have two computers, but only one adaptor. The other day my dad came home with a new one from work, but it has a few more amperes and fewer volts:

    (Poweradaptor: 16V/4.5A)
    (Computer: 19V/3.9A)

My question is simply - will it destroy my computer if I try it out?

I would not take a chance with it. It wouldn't power the laptop properly anyway. Can yu give us a make and model of the laptop that has no adapter?
