I'm trying to add an XP Pro workstation to an NT4 domain. I am not the top level domain administrator at our District Office so that I won't have access to medical insurance information that must be protected by law. I am a member of the Domain Admins group but when I use my userid and password to join the XP workstation to the domain, I get an access denied message. What level of permissions do I need or what group do I need to be a member of in NT4 to add an XP workstation to the domain?

Thanks for any help you can give.

The Domain Admin group is the highest level in NT 4. You may want to try adding the computer name to the domain on the PDC, then try to add the XP box to the domain. You will need to either log on locally to the PDC or run Server Manager from your WS and add the computername (NetBIOS name of the XP box) to the domain. Once the name is associated with the domain, the join function will not ask for a username and password.

Hope this helps!
