Hello, I'm trying to add an additional fan to my desk top. When I boot up my PC the additional fan will start and then after two minutes it stops. I tried other sockets on the board but the same results. I'm running an older Pentium 4, with win XP. Do I have to configure something or is my board just not able to handle another fan? Thanks in advance for your answers.
Also why are you connecting it to the motherboard, why not connect it directly to the power supply? As Hughv said some fans have temp sensors. is it a 3 or 4 pin conection?
have you tried another fan?
there is usually a three pic header on the motherbaord called SFAN or CFAN, well this is what it is called on my ones, if you have the manual read it, it will tell you where you can place additial fans. just one question what PSU do you have? wattage? and amperage?
That is my next question, how do I find out what kind of system I'm running? Is there a software I can download or cna you give me the steps to manually find out?
Belarc adviser will tell you most of what you need: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
For the power supply, the specs will be printed right on it.
Once you know the motherboard, you should be able to find a manual.
