Additional OnDemand AV with AVG?

I run AVG 6.0 Free with full satisfaction since a couple of years,(after a Norton nightmare)but recently i conceived the idea of adding an on-demand Scan to it for enhanced security. In the last two years i used TrendMicro housecall once in a while, but now i'd like to experiment with BitDefender Free AV. I've used this AV in a pc a few months ago and i was impressed,so would like to keep AVG resident with BitDefender on-demand.
Has anyone tried this combination and can they cooperate the way i intend to?
Is there any reason i shouldnt team the two up?
Another possibility could be F-Prot for DOS,but i am unsure about my capabilities, although it being an apparently very easy apparatus.
Any input appreciated,thanks.

That's right,$teve, just as a scan only, leaving old AVG as sole heuristic-oriented and obviously neutralizing it at every BitD. scan.
I was impressed by BD as it got a virus in an Outlook Exp. message which i had deleted, but not yet overwritten,in a pc i used for a while a few months ago.(Magister32 i think).
Thanks.
