I _need_ to format my WinXP machine, so I boot from the XP CD, and go to the recovery console-- but it asks for an administrator password. I'm the admin my on XP install, but I never set a password for anything, at all.

How can I reset it? Get around it? Anything?

You dont need to go into the Recovery Console to format your hard drive. The password is probably blank if you never set one.

It isn't blank, I've tried that. Is there a way to format, that won't need the password?

Well first off, why do you want to format your hard drive. You do realize that you will lose all information stored on the drive when you do this.

You can format and Partition the hard drive during the Install of the Operating system.
