I'm currently working on creating shapes which are layered over the top of a shot of vehicles moving along a road. What I want to be able to do is have a path shape which moves across and appears to be attached to the windscreen of a few vehicles, but of course this requires it to change shape because of the nature of the shot, where the vehicles go out of shot.

I have managed to move the path shape across the screen using position keyframes but I cannot work out a way for it to save it's current state in one instance and then follow the windscreen, animating into the final shape as it goes.

I am sorry if this doesn't appear totally clear - I have only started working with After Effects and this is obviously my first project (albeit maybe an ambitious one!).
