The way to fix Adobe Reader (bloatware) permanently is to uninstall it and install Foxit.

Installing foxit or any other reader in preference to Adobe won't cure the underlying problem or vulnerability. The vulnerability isn't so much in Adobe reader itself but in the specs for PDF and adobe provide full functionality according to the specs.

Foxit and every other PDF reader is just as vulnerable to the exploit that Adobe is fixing but nothing gets announced about the minor readers because they don't get targeted as much, but expect updates from Foxit & every other PDF reader as well very soon
