    Hi.

I am looking to getting an ADSL wireless router so I can use my laptop any where in my house and connect it to the internet without having to have the laptop physically plugged into the phoneline. A number of friends of mine do this, using an ADSL router, with a wireless adapter card. However as I am with AOL, who naturally choose to be awkward I cannot directly follow suit with the same routers - all the brands I have looked at do not mention specific ranges, how can I tell how far their signal would reach?

    Thanks.

How long is a road? That's a similar question. :)

There are so many factors that influence the range of WiFi signals that it's impossible to come up with a single number.

I see John, I was wondering of there was kind of general thing, such as long, meduim and short range wireless routers. So I can presume that the router will reach round most of my two story brick house? (So the general range is something like 50ft?)

The interior walls, wiring in the walls. 2.4ghz phones, microwave ovens, etc. will all affect wireless range. You can also buy a omni directional antenna to add some range...
