All of these startup entries in Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - Startup(tab) can be unchecked because there's no need for them to auto-load and run in the background.

If you've done a format and reinstall and are still having the same problem, there may be an issue that we're not aware of.

Don't forget to upgrade Vista to SP2 and IE to 8.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Uncheck these startup entries in Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - Startup(tab)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RtHDVCpl] RtHDVCpl.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OSD] C:\Program Files\OEM\OSD_1.17\osd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\Windows\system32\hkcmd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Persistence] C:\Windows\system32\igfxpers.exe

then change the "startup type" to Manual in this service entry in Start - Run - SERVICES.MSC - OK

    O23 - Service: OSD Service (OsdService) - TODO: <????> - C:\Program Files\OEM\OSD_1.17\OsdService.exe

    then restart the computer.

    ok, if your still on-line, i'm updating to sp2 as we speak however i cant find : O23 - Service: OSD Service (OsdService) - TODO: <????> - C:\Program Files\OEM\OSD_1.17\OsdService.exe
in the services.msc tool, there is an OSD Service but that relates to the keyboard ?

Ok, sp2 and ie8 installed, think i have set the correct osd service to manual, will post another log, i have noticed a slight change in start up and shut down times but programs are still very sluggish to respond, very jumpy if that makes sense, i never had problems playing on line games on this before but now it's just impossible, look forward to your response and thoughts on what could be the problem, thanks again for your help :)

Unless you're insistent on having it, get rid of the Google toolbar and other Google-related crap.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

I don't see an antivirus program installed, so download and install Microsoft Security Essentials - which is very user-friendly.

It's got an Intel dual core processor and 3 GB of RAM, so it shouldn't be running slow.

Sometimes it's difficult to diagnose a problem without having a "hands on" with the computer.
