    Hi all

I stupidly stepped on my laptop and have cracked the screen, after getting all sorts of stupid quotes i thought id give it a go myself.

Trouble is i have located the product number of the screen which is Lp154wx4 (tl) (d4) but i do not understand what the serial numbers in the brackets refer to...(tl) (d4)....and if this will matter when ordering a new screen.

If anyone can shed any light on this it would be much appreciated.

Personally, I use ebay for such and have had good luck every time. I first look for a good used screen with its bezel, back and all still attached. That makes replacement very easy and is usually cheaper than a bare new screen.

I've had success every time searching by computer model number. I've bought new and used and been happy with every purchase.

Pretty genric screen, used by 3 major brand names: HP&Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba and Acer.. so the price is fairly cheap at about $85~100.

As Alex says - it'd be easier to replace the whole top if possible. Then you just need to attach it to the hinges and power/data cable. Have you tested the notebook by connecting the output VGA to another monitor or HD-TV?

You should also try to locate the service manual to the notebook. When you start unscrewing the notebook, place the screws on a pad or paper in the same arrangement they came out.

    The list:

i have spoke to a few wholesalers who sell this screen and they advise that the (tl) (d4) does not refer to anything specific about the screen, so long as it is the the same LP number for the correct make and model of laptop.

i am just awaiting delivery of my screen and shall update you guys once fitted. Wish me luck.
