Before upgrading from Nt4 to win2k I used Radmin to administer the server remotely. No problems with either a remote connection via the internet or a remote connection via internal lan. Now that I've upgraded to win2k I can still use Radmin via lan but not remotely via internet. Any clues?
    Thanks!

    Greetings

Personally, I use VNC (Virtual Network Computing) for all my remote administration needs. It is free, and can be run on almost any platform (w9x, NT, Linux, Unix, FeeBSD, etc).

You problem through the internet may be that there is a firewall on one of the sides, and the particular port that you want to access has been closed.

    Cheers

thanks for the suggestion. As to the firewall, no the server is outside the firewall...win2k is not allowing the connection for some yet unkown reason.

Have you installed VNC and does it work?

    Cheers

yes I did install vnc but it also doesn't work outside the network. I'm baffled, it all worked fine under nt4

Ok, then there must be something different with the way you have the PC connected to the Internet.

Either you are now using a firewall or a proxy, and you have "spoofed" your IP addresses inside your network (if your internal IP addresses are 192.168.x.x then this is definately the case).

You may need to setup a VPN connection to your server for Internet use.

Does any of this sound relevant?

    Cheers

It does sound familiar but the funny thing is the server is outside the firewall and Radmin worked fine under nt4 but as soon as i installed win2k it stopped working.

    Greetings

Your machine at home.. is it an NT machine? If it is, it may be that you are trying to use Radmin through a NetBIOS connection. For this to succeed, you need two things to be true:

    1) You need to be authenticated on the Domain
    2) Your NT machine must have a computer account on the domain.

Try and add your home PC to the Domain, and see if that helps

(My dad had to bring his Win2K Pro machine into his office from home, get it setup and added to the domain so that he could access the SQL server from home)

    Cheers
